Keyword research
Keyword: keyword is a word and it is combination of words. Keyword is nothing but what we are searching for a information on search engines, this keywords may have meaning or meaningless.
Keyword phrase: It is combination of two or more keywords used by visitors who are searching in search engine in a desired to find information based on particular phrase.
Types of Keywords: as per search engines
Key words are 3 types:
1. Low level keywords
2. Medium level keywords
3. High level keywords
1. Low level keywords : If the keyword competition in search engine (like Google) it having 4 digits keyword competition is consider as low level keywords. Use with these keywords we can optimize a website within 3-5months.
2. Medium level: If the keywords competition in search engine (Google) it having 7 digits keywords competition, consider as medium level. With these keywords we can optimize our site within 6 to 7 months.
3. High level: If the keyword competition is above or equal to 8 digits it is considered as high level keywords, with these we can optimize within year (or) one year
Keyword density: keyword density refers to the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total no of words in the web-page. keyword density is percentage or ratio of keywords.
The recommended keywords density ratio is 2% to 8%. Keyword quality is important more than quantity, if a website have keywords in page title, headlines, and first paragraph these counts more. If we have a keyword in URL, it will be increase ranking. (Especially in yahoo).
Keyword tails:
1. Short tail keywords
2. Long tail keywords
1. Short tail keywords: Short tail keywords are one or two keywords phrases such as “SEO service”, “Baby names”, etc. These are commonly used keywords.
2. Long tail keywords: long tail keywords are three or more the keywords phrase, such as “software development in Goa”, “Management Colleges in Hyderabad”.
Long tail keywords will not get as much traffic as short tail keywords, but long tail keywords have higher conversion rates than short tail keywords.
Keyword relevancy: keyword relevancy indicates the competitiveness of keywords and Very closed meaning of those keywords
Keyword relevancy means no. of times a keyword phrase or keyword appears with in a web-page, search engines are likely to give the page for a search with those keywords.
Keyword proximity: keyword proximity refers to the closeness between two or more keywords. Better to have keywords placed closer in a sentence.
EX: low cost flight services in India.
Flight services in India at low cost.
If someone searched for “low-cost Flights in India”, a web page containing first sentence in more likely to rank higher than the second.
Keywords mistypes: when searching for a keyword using a particular spelling errors are very frequent, if you know the keyword have popular misspelling. Targeting those keywords might get traffic, We can use these keywords in Meta tags, but do not use in content.
Ex: Make Money it may type as Make Maney
Secondary keywords:
Secondary keywords are very useful to get good traffic and it having less competition.
For ex: “MBA colleges in India” it having heavy competition.
“MBA colleges in Hyderabad”low competition than SEO services.
Key word stemming: A Word stem from the same Root.
EG: Joke, Jokes, Joker, Jokey
If we type Joke we will get hits for Jokes and Joker as well other languages keywords stemming could be an issue because different words that stem from same root considered as not related.
Key word Dilution:
When a web-page is optimized with keywords especially unrelated ones, this will affect the performance of all the keywords and even the major keywords will be lost or diluted in the text. So don’t target more keywords on a single page.
Choosing keywords:
It is very important in SEO, without good and relevant keywords may not affect your website. We can choose one word strings in our keywords list but if they are not backed up by more expressions it is waste of time.
Ex: If you have a website on “Web design” software is a mandatory keyword. But you not successful, it you not use more words,
EX: Web design services, Software services in India, etc.
You need to think broad when we are choosing a keywords first thing we need to analysis that keywords describe the web-page content, likely to be used by users to find the website.
We should understand the visitors (users) well and guess correctly hat they are searching for, synonyms we can take into consideration.
EX: web services, online services.
