There are many skills involved in being a successful entrepreneur. You probably already know this. But what you may not know is that you don’t have to get an MBA or attend expensive seminars in order to gain them. There are some more unique routes to gaining these skills, and some of them of may just be easier, and a whole lot cheaper, than you think.
1.  Plan a big event
Make sure it’s something big. Whether it’s a wedding, reunion, or anniversary party, the theme doesn’t matter. What does, is that you will use skills such as planning, meeting deadlines, finding suppliers, negotiating rates and terms, managing others and keeping everything on pace to see the event through.

2.  Become a volunteer
Being a volunteer will give you the opportunity to use your skills, without the pressure to sell anything. You will be able to make contacts, gain valuable skills, help achieve a common goal and do it all while helping your community.

3.  Make the crowd laugh
Having good communication skills is essential in business. You can learn some of the most effective communication skills by taking a stand-up comedy class. From learning how to read a crowd to mastering improvisation, your communication skills will greatly be improved, and all without the use of PowerPoint.
4.  Coach little league
Take one season and become a coach for a youth team in your city. They always need the help, and you can gain such skills as team building, motivating others, helping people to capitalize on their strengths, and recognizing the importance of strategy and follow-through.

5.  Become a blogger
By either blogging about your area of interest or becoming a local journalist on the topic, you will establish yourself as an expert. You will also become efficient at handling research and getting interviews with industry leaders, and you will continue to stay on the cusp of everything new in your field.

6.  Learn a new language
Whether all your business is conducted globally or not, there is an increasing need for knowing another language or at least being culturally aware. You may at some point want to make a good impression by being able to at least greet others in their native language.
Growth happens
When you get out from behind all the entrepreneurial books and blogs (not that there is anything wrong with them, they also serve an important purpose), you can focus on gaining some practical skills through hands-on routes. To gain these skills, you don’t have to drop a bucket-load of money and sit in a classroom for two years.
